How to play Snake
Steer the snake around a 20×20 garden and eat the red apples. Every apple makes you one segment longer — and that's the whole cruel joke of the game: your greatest achievement is also your biggest obstacle. Run into a wall or into your own tail and the round is over. The snake speeds up every five apples, so a long snake is also a fast one.
Steer with the arrow keys, the on-screen buttons, or by swiping anywhere on the board. The snake can't reverse into itself, so opposite-direction input is politely ignored. Your best score is kept on your device — beat it mid-game and you'll get a little confetti moment.
Growing old gracefully
- Hug the edges and sweep in big lanes, like mowing a lawn — chaotic zig-zags in the middle are what create fatal pockets.
- Leave yourself an exit: before taking an apple near your body, know which way you'll turn after it.
- At high speed, think in two moves ahead, not one — the input buffer means your next turn happens sooner than you feel.
- When you're very long, follow your own tail closely; the safest square on the board is the one your tail is about to vacate.
