How to play Block Gems
Block Gems takes familiar falling blocks and turns them into a three-minute fireworks show. Pieces carry gems, and clearing a line triggers every gem in it: the pink bomb blasts the 3ร3 around it, the yellow lightning wipes its whole column, the blue clock adds ten seconds to the timer, and the purple star is worth 250 bonus points.
The real magic is cascade gravity: after a clear, every block falls straight down to fill the gaps below it. Falling blocks can complete new lines all by themselves, chaining clear after clear with multiplied scores. And unlike classic block stacking, topping out doesn't end the game here โ the board is simply swept clean and you keep playing. Only the clock can stop you.
Racing the timer well
- Hunt the blue clocks. Ten extra seconds is usually worth more than any single line score โ clear clock lines even when they're otherwise poor value.
- Set up clears above holes on purpose: cascade gravity will fill them and often triggers a free chain.
- A lightning gem placed in a tall, messy column is a get-out-of-trouble card โ save it for your worst column.
- Since topping out only sweeps the board, late in the countdown you can stack recklessly fast for points โ a luxury the classic version never allows.
